Summary:

We seek a creative, motivated collaborator with experience developing and carrying out effective email engagement campaigns who is excited to work with communications experts and stakeholders to drive meaningful impact toward organizational long-term objectives and goals.  The Senior Manager Email Engagement plays a critical role, leading the outbound communications and implementing email strategy to support initiatives across departments. This role will develop, coordinate and evaluate communications designed to engage animal welfare professionals, including animal shelter staff, equine welfare professionals, and veterinary professionals. This position requires project management skills to plan, implement and evaluate new communication strategies and manage all elements of ongoing email campaigns and technology.

The ASPCA Communications Department is a passionate, collaborative team responsible for using various communications channels to further the organization’s mission of preventing cruelty to dogs, cats, equines, and farm animals throughout the United States. ASPCApro reaches professionals in the animal welfare field by providing relevant, timely, and accurate content, training, research, and resources via various strategic digital channels to help animal welfare professionals ensure animals live good lives.

This full-time, remote-based position (which requires travel, as described below) is open to all candidates based within the United States.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Develop and Drive Email Communication Strategy (55%)

  • Plan and implement email engagement strategies, driven by content and audience strategies, and in collaboration with web, online learning, and social platform efforts, to grow participation in various ASPCA initiatives and activate relevant professional audiences
  • Serve as the primary lead on email engagement strategies: develop platform-specific trainings, keep recommended guidelines for email marketing up-to-date, handle the planning, execution, and measurement process of all email logistics and activities
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to deliver meaningful messages. Draft email content that effectively drives action and engagement with professional audiences.
  •  Track and report on email metrics related to ongoing email engagement campaigns. Find opportunities, mitigate issues, and inform ongoing strategy.
  • Develop strategies for email marketing, including acquisition, retention, and re-engagement.
  • Stay abreast of changes in the email marketing space that impact email design, engagement strategies, and standard processes across the ASPCA.

Manage Email Database & Technology (45%)

  • Build, test, troubleshoot, and send email communications using the HubSpot platform and occasionally other internal communications tools.
  • Collaborate on developing and carrying out a conversion strategy for professional audiences, including tracking conversions in HubSpot or associated customer relationship management systems (CRMs).
  • Analyze, track, and document key segments of our email list of animal welfare professionals, including shelter and rescue, and veterinary professionals.
  • Optimize and generate audience funnels, track conversions, and make recommendations to improve engagement.
  • Create and run automated workflows and integrations between our CRM and external platforms, including Zoom, ASPCApro.org, social media channels, and learning management system (LMS)
  • Maintain a healthy email list, including data cleaning and staying in sync with best practices and email regulations.
  • Analyze key data, create reports on list health, growth, and engagement, and recommend strategy shifts to improve our engagement campaigns and progress toward goals
  • Run vendor relationships, handle contracts, and serve as the liaison between vendors and other partners throughout the ASPCA, including Communications leadership, Legal and Finance teams
  • Works across multiple teams to ensure continuity across ASPCApro channels, communications teams, and internal partners.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to analyze and target email audience segments and track performance data to better understand audience needs.
  • Ability to develop with support from other team members – relevant and effective email communication strategies that move professional audience in a meaningful way.
  • Ability to acquire and convert different target audiences using content, website forms and mechanics
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including communicating effectively and professionally with diverse audiences
  • Proficiency in conducting keyword research, writing for the web and developing engaging newsletter copy
  • Ability to follow a consistent style in line with ASPCA and ASPCApro style guides
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to work with a variety of teams and manage others in the course of a project
  • Ability to create workplans, track progress to goals and meet due dates
  • Organized and efficient while comfortable balancing competing priorities across simultaneous projects
  • Ability to be successful working in a remote office with minimal supervision

Additional Information:

  • Occasional evening and weekend work
  • Up to 5% travel required (Please note, travel requirements may be modified temporarily due in part to COVID-19; this remains a requirement of the position, and we expect normal travel volume to resume as the organization resumes normal operations)

Work Experience & Knowledge:

  • Three years of developing and completing effective email engagement campaigns with specific conversion goals around engagement and conversion required.
  • Two years of experience using Customer relationship management (CRM) tools and email service providers; with at least one year experience with Hubspot, or a similarly robust CRM (Pardot, Salesforce, Marketo, etc.)
  • Proficiency in HubSpot preferred
  • Beginner level experience (at a minimum) with Microsoft Excel required
  • Experience with Google Analytics a plus
  • Familiarity with basic HTML preferred
