Summary:

The Senior Product Manager is the perfect job for a personable, creative, and inquisitive individual who is comfortable with the unknown, open to the possibilities, and can turn vision into reality. This person will define new product requests and ongoing product enhancements with ASPCA end-users, and will help to lead, define, and strategize ongoing product roadmaps. The Senior Product Manager will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to create and support simple, scalable, and more automated information and systems. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be a great teammate, and have a desire to support the ASPCA in achieving our mission of ending cruelty to animals. 

In this position, you will never be bored! The ASPCA supports a broad portfolio of technologies to support a highly mobile and diverse staff. Maintaining a presence in multiple geographic locations, the team provides support (hands-on and remote) to over a dozen facilities and field operations, and to over a thousand individual staff members.  Your work will be integral to the organization as you work across departments to ensure ASPCA staff, partners and communities have the systems needed to work effectively and efficiently to improve animal welfare. 

This remote-based position (which requires travel, as described below) is open to all candidates based within the United States. Candidates based within commuting distance of New York City will be required to commute to our New York City 8th Avenue office once a week.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Critically Analyze and Collaborate with Stakeholders to Solve Cross Functional Problems (45%)

  • Gain the business and technical knowledge vital to understand current workflows and gaps.
  • Partner with the program teams through interviews, job shadowing, and other discovery methods, to ensure the needs and priorities of new and ongoing products and enhancements are clearly defined and documented.
  • Conduct cost/benefit analysis on technical solutions and partner with architecture and development resources to ensure the information technology applications are available and flexible to meet the changing business environment
  • Support current process frameworks and workflows, and proactively introduce efficiencies and improvements
  • Document and manage product requirements and maintain backlog using agile tools and processes creating detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured stories and tasks.
  • Create workflows, wireframes, demos, and other visualizations to clearly articulate requirements into something real
  • Bring a comprehensive picture of the technical possibilities to the discussion, and work with users, vendors, the IT team, and others as needed to spec out and implement the best solution

Product and Project Lifecycle Management (45%)

  • Partner with project and program teams to develop and handle timelines, budgets, and product development initiatives
  • Work with the product management team to maintain a request intake process to enable program teams to clearly articulate and prioritize their requests and optimize resources and efforts. 
  • Lead and help define the most important Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and derive measures from the results for the future success of the product
  • Be responsible for the management of change control for applications: Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and validate opportunities to improve existing products and estimate, prioritize, plan items on roadmap and backlog. Guide users and technical staff through the process
  • Update and create change documentation, ensure change tasks are identified, vetted and documented, create and complete test plans and scenarios, and acquire sign-off from stakeholders
  • Write and test user acceptance criteria and work with all stakeholders to document, assign and resolve bugs
  • Identify and involve vendors, other technical experts within the IT department, and subject matter experts within the ASPCA, as needed, and direct their efforts based on determined priorities. Lead vendor relationships and advocate for our users
  • Ensure that users get the timely, effective help they need to do their work. Identify patterns in tickets and proactively work to prevent recurrence of common issues (e.g. by modifying the application, improving documentation, changing procedures, etc.)
  • Stay organized and manage your time well as you juggle requests from multiple sources.
  • Perform post-launch reviews to determine launch success and future iterations needed to improve product performance

Training and Documentation (10%)

  • Regularly meet with business users to identify, define, implement and maintain up to date training and documentation
  • Respond to and support one-on-one training needs
  • Stay current on new releases and upgrades to supported applications by attending appropriate training, seminars, participate in relevant user groups and subscribe to email notices, and communicate relevant information to relevant parties
  • Cross train on other applications to serve as backup support when team members are not available, and to pitch in on major projects. Responsible for creating and updating supporting product documentation
  • Mentor other product managers on the team


Technical Requirements:

  • Considerable knowledge of software development life-cycle methodologies, SaaS, and IT best practices 
  • Considerable knowledge of relational databases and CRMs, ideally Salesforce and Airtable preferred


Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 5 years in a business analysis, product manager or project manager role specifically working with software development required
  • 3 years of experience creating and eliciting business requirements, workflows and wireframes for software products required
  • 3 years of experience with agile product management, including user stories, tasks, prioritization, estimation and backlog support required
  • 2 years of experience strategically defining and implementing software product roadmaps required
  • 3 years of experience with quickly learning and supporting new technologies required
  • 2 years of experience managing relationships with vendors

Additional Information:

  • Availability for off-hours support of critical applications required
  • Some travel to ASPCA locations and training sites (about 5% annually) may be required
