Job Summary: 

The Membership Marketing & Content Strategy’s (MMCS) content team is responsible for strategizing, producing and updating written and creative content for the ASPCA's public-facing channels, including but not limited to, social media, email, direct mail, digital advertising, offline fundraising, and our member magazine. The team collaborates closely with others in Development (print and digital designers, multimedia, corporate partners, data etc.), as well as with other departments throughout the ASPCA to effectively achieve the organization’s messaging, programmatic and fundraising goals. 

The Coordinator, Social Media, will work with the Social Media Manager to collaborate on strategy, scheduling, creating and posting organic content on the ASPCA’s main social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook, select Facebook Groups, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok. They will closely follow social media trends and stay connected with our channel reps to ensure that we’re using each channel in the most effective way, and to engage with new channels as they develop. The Coordinator will collaborate with their supervisor and others on the team to respond to social media requests and develop organic social media content that will support the department’s goals, program team goals, fundraising initiatives and engagement campaigns, while keeping our existing supporters engaged and growing our supporter base.  

This is an onsite position based at the ASPCA 8th Ave office with the option to work remotely 1-2 days a week.   


Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Project Management (60%) 

  • Assist with scheduling, creating and posting content to all ASPCA main social media channels to engage with our existing supporters and grow our supporter base. 

  • Work closely with MMCS team members and program teams to develop account-specific content for organic social media that support goals derived from narrative arcs, fundraising and programmatic campaigns 

  • Maintain the social media calendar with original organic content, and requests that come through the social media request form. Work closely with the Content Coordinator to manage day-to-day engagement of ASPCA social media channels including community-outreach, engaging in dialogues, answering questions, communicating with donors and escalating inquiries to appropriate teams. 

  • Attend select ASPCA events, video/photo shoots, and field deployments to gather social media assets and other content, including opportunities to go live on our channels.  

  • Ensure that all content posted on behalf of the ASPCA is accurate, securing appropriate approvals from team leaders, programs and legal.

  • Work with Membership teams to coordinate builds for all social media creative, including web pages, shareable cards, infographics, unique URLs, social media-specific videos, etc. 

  • Stay up-to-date on new social media trends, bringing new ideas to the table to support MMCS team’s key goals. Share trends, new channel developments, interesting posts, key influencers, challenges and opportunities that arise during team meetings. 

  • Assist with paid ad reporting and analytics on specific MMCS-led paid social campaigns.  


Team Collaboration and Communication (40%) 

  • Keep the MMCS team apprised of the social media calendar within biweekly MMCS team meetings and Content Strategy meetings. 

  • Lead the weekly social media meeting, and work closely with the Communications team to coordinate messaging across ASPCA Pro and The Right Horse channels. 

  • Work closely with teams across the organization, attending team meetings, as well as monitoring Workplace posts, to gather employee generated content that can be used to engage with our supporters and highlight our lifesaving work 

  • Collaborate with the Multimedia team to utilize photos and video assets for social media platforms; assist in uploading specific employee generated content to the Asset Archive. 

  • Participate in brainstorms for fundraising narrative arcs and other campaigns and provide the social media perspective, identifying areas for engagement with our supporters.  

  • Participate in weekly meetings with MMCS and content team to plan and align organic content shared across channels. 

  • Participate in regular meetings with the Communications team, the Digital Acquisition team, and our social channel reps. 

  • Identify conferences and webinars to attend with manager approval, and share key takeaways with the team.

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience. 

  • Documented experience in Social Media like: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, blogs, etc.  

  • Experience with brand marketing and working within a style guide 

  • Administrative and project management experience 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 

Additional Information: 

  • Must be available on certain weekends and evenings as needed, with advanced notice. 
  • This position is based in our New York office, with the option for some remote days
