Summary:
The Forensic Sciences team in the ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement department is involved in examination of animal victims of cruelty. Their work supports investigation, prosecution and prevention of cruelty to animals. The team is seeking a Temporary Coordinator to provide administrative support beginning immediately and lasting through January 2024, with a possibility to continue beyond January. This position is temporary and the person hired will be employed through a third-party staffing agency.
The Temporary Veterinary Forensic Science Coordinator will play a key role on this team by supporting the forensic casework for NYPD animal cruelty cases, including all aspects of the forensic evaluation and evidence documentation of animal cruelty cases brought to the ASPCA 92nd St. Animal Hospital. This includes intake of live and deceased animals, which includes, medical record and legal paperwork management and computer data entry. There will be no direct animal contact or handling as part of this position.
The Temporary Coordinator will work 4-5 days per week,. The target hiring range for this temporary role is $24.00 per hour and may be modified in the future.
Responsibilities:
Forensic Science and Veterinary Medicine Support
- Assist with all aspects of veterinary forensic work, including intake of all live and deceased animals, medical record preparation and management, completion and filing of legal documents, and computer data entry
- Send outside lab samples including, but not limited to, Babesia, DNA, and necropsy samples
Administrative
- Computer Data Entry in Forensic/Legal Database and ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) Database: Case and animal identification, arrest information, animal legal and forensic status, animal location and disposition
- Forensic case record management. Responsible for creation of medical records and adding paperwork to medical record as it is produced during animal’s stay at AAH
- Provides District Attorney’s offices with certified copies of complete medical records
- Assist in the development of new protocols and standard operating guidelines for Anti-Cruelty Group patients
Qualifications:
Comfortable being exposed to pictures of animals that have been through trauma and are severely compromised; Strong computer literacy and basic proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite; Experience with Salesforce would be a bonus; Experience working with animals or an interest in animal welfare preferred; High degree of professionalism and confidentiality
